Our Nedlands project combines contemporary design with existing traditional elements. This split level plot had been lovingly gardened for many years, with a rose garden created by a previous owner and many plants with sentimental value to be incorporated into the new design.
We wanted to retain the character from the existing garden and create a new space for our clients to entertain friends and enjoy spending time with their grandchildren. Hedging with a window cut into it was used to separate the space into two sections. In the main garden we extended the terrace and introduced a planting scheme that had more rhythm and repetition. The sharp lines and generous spaces delineated by garden beds make the garden feel open, defined and peaceful. Planting included a limited mix of shrubs and herbaceous perennials. In the lower section (the existing rose garden) we refreshed the pathways, keeping the original water feature as a centrepiece. We designed a heavy timber pergola over an existing pizza oven and built a shed with seating to enjoy the impressive collection of cottage plants and roses, all colliding in a riot of colour.
